Rule of thumb

Quick conversions

  • 1 kg/hr steam (F&A 100 °C) ≈ 540 kcal/hr ≈ 0.63 kW
  • 1 kW = 860 kcal/hr · 1 BHP (boiler) ≈ 15.65 kg/hr steam
  • 1,000 L water raised 1 °C = 1,000 kcal
  • Diesel ≈ 10,400 kcal/kg · PNG ≈ 8,600 kcal/SCM · LPG ≈ 11,500 kcal/kg
